A Changing Room Conversation RyanCarrWeber

Jacoby, Samuel, Adam and Greg were sitting in a corner of the changing room after sparring with each other just for fun, chatting quietly as the other wrestlers trickled in for practice and matches.

Greg: Man, this sucks. I've had one frickin' match.

Adam: Aw, shut up, at least you had one. We're still waiting.

Sam & Jacoby: Yeah.

Sam: though you haven't been waiting very long, Adam.

Adam: oh, come on. I've waited long enough. It's the principle.

Greg: So I've had one match, big deal. It was months ago.

Sam: He has a point. It's like all the attention is on the bigger guys.

Adam: I dunno. The middle guys have it harder, I think. They never seem to get out there.

As the four talked, Bill walked in and went over to them.

Bill: hey, guys.

They all shot him sidelong glances, trying to make the larger wrestler feel unwelcome.

Bill: Whoa, whoa. what's wrong? I ain't done nothin' to you.

Adam: Sorry, man, we're just pissed off cause lately you big guys have been getting all the attention. It just ain't fair.

Bill: I see. I dunno, the older guys I guess just want to get out there before they go to college. You guys have more time around here than we do. You'll get your chances.

Greg: Aw, that's bull. It's not age, it's muscle. It's like all the league cares about is the big, flashy matches with illegal stuff and double teaming. It wasn't like this back in the Boys' league.

Jacoby: It is now, though. That fat kid's made it that way. Though it still ain't as bad.

Bill: tell you what, I'll talk to the guys who run the league. I know them thru my dad.

All four thanked Bill simultaneously, and the amateur heavyweight walked off towards the ring area. They resumed their conversation.

Samuel: He ain't gonna talk to them.

Jacoby: Shut up, man, Bill's a good guy, he'll do it. We smaller guys'll get more matches, you'll see.

All expressed their doubtful hopes that Jacoby would prove right, that the light- and middleweights would see more ring action, and the focus would not continue to rest so heavily on the bigger, and generally older wrestlers.
